     Rev. John Whiting was probably born in Hartford, possibly in England, circa 1635.21,22,23,24 He married, first, in Cambridge, Middlesex, Mass, circa 1654, Sibyl Collins, daughter of Deacon Edward Collins and Martha Baylie.25,26,27,23 He married, second, in Hartford, Hartford, Conn, September 1673, Phebe Gregson, daughter of Thomas Gregson/Grigson and Jane (?).21,28,24 He died in Hartford, Hartford, Conn, on 8 September 1689.21,28,24

     John graduated from Harvard, class of 1653. Rev. Joshua Moody was a classmate. Their wives were sisters. Thomas Shepard, 1635-1677, was also a classmate. Thomas was the son of Rev. Thomas Shepard, 1605-1649, paster of the First Church in Cambridge.29 John and his family moved from Cambridge to Hartford, Hartford, Conn circa 1660.30,24,13 John became a Freeman at Hartford, Hartford, Conn., on 11 May 1665.31 Rev. John Whiting's estate was inventoried for probate in Hartford, Hartford, Conn on 5 November 1689.7,32 John's sister Mary married his wife's brother Nathaniel Collins.
