     From the Clyde Herald newspaper, Wednesday, December 4, 1912, written by Alfred Seelye Roe: "Hudson Wood will pass his 91st birthday next Friday at his home south-west of Rose. He was born in the town of which was then Wolcott, Dec. 6, 1821. He was son of John and Harriet Sheldon Wood. The father having come in early life to what is now Wayne from Orange County, N.Y. The mother being a member of that Sheldon family who earlier still emigrated from Western Massachusetts to that part of the old town of Wolcott that in 1826 became Huron. Born and reared on a farm, the tilling of the soil was his lifelong occupation. His first wife Catherine, daughter of the late Thaddeus and Harriet Sheldon Collins, who were for a long time residents of the eastern portion of the town of Rose. They had four children born to them, two daughters. Mrs. George Saunders of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Harriet Leonard of Chicago, Ill., and one son, Collins Wood of Rose. His first wife died many years ago. His second wife who was Jane Jeffers daughter of the late Nathan Jeffers of Rose is still alive. Mr. Wood has always been a staunch Republican and a member of the Methodist church. He is erect in stature, quick and alert in his actions and comes to his 91st birthday a much younger man than many who have not begun to see his length of days."
